PFFFT! You Were Gone!
I have often wondered just how many of the songs from "Hee Haw" made their way into the common vernacular. This one certainly has.
Here is all I know of "PFFFT! You Were Gone"
Where oh where are you tonight?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I searched the world over and thought I'd found true love.
You met another and PFFFT! You were gone.
Written by Bix Reichner (who also wrote "Papa Loves Mambo," which has been used in commercials, movies, etc. in recent years), this song was a favorite of adults and children alike in the "Hee Haw" days. Usually Archie Campbell and a guest would stand at the picket fence. Archie would start out singing the verse, which was often written to rhyme with the guest's name or some outstanding feature about the guest. The guest, who had his or her back to the camera during the verse, would turn around and join Archie for the familiar chorus. PFFFT!, of course, is a "raspberry" - sometimes a really messy one - and the resulting expressions were priceless.
